A carte blanche is an invitation which the European Capital of Culture programme initiative extends to certain artistic creators, a common practice among the festivals and cultural events which have inspired San Sebastian 2016 to complete its Conversations programming line.
San Sebastian-born dancer and choreographer Jone San Martin, now living in Berlin, has been given one of the three cartes blanches. She responded by designing a varied proposal which brings the accumulated influences of her international trajectory to various flagship cultural spaces in her native town.
She introduces the Dance On Ensemble to San Sebastián, the company in which San Martín currently dances alongside five other dance professionals who are over forty. The aim of Dance On is to demonstrate the beauty of the art of dance through experienced dancers. It showcases the artistic excellence of these dance professionals, whose experience, charisma and dramatic impact – their whole life, you could say – are shown on the stage. The ensemble performs two of the first productions from the group’s repertoire: Those specks of dust by Kat Vàlastur and 7 Dialogues by Matteo Fargion.
