DANCE ON LOKAL questions clichéd notions of what it means to be old and addresses older people in the different towns and cities in which they live. The first workshop for participants 50+ took place in Berlin, led by dancer and choreographer Martin Nachbar.
The idea behind his concept, entitled ‘Gestural Anecdotes’, is to bring together dance amateurs and professional dancers on an equal footing, as experts of the movements generated by their own lives and experiences. Three dancers from the Dance On Ensemble joined six amateurs from Berlin to share and develop movement material and experiment with choreographic and performative structures.
Further workshops will follow in 2017 and 2018, building up to a public sharing during the Dance On Festival in March 2018.
