Debora Hay remains among the most radical and influential postmodern artists, and she is also one of the founding members of the Judson Dance Theater that first came up in the 1960s. To this day, the artist, born in 1941, influences the development of the international dance and performance scene. In her works, she does not only question dance and choreography practice, she also focusses on a differentiated perception of one’s own body and the reflection of learned patterns of perceptions, from both dancers as well as from the audience. “Tenacity of Space”, too, was created from the basic idea of “enlarging your perspective”, according to Deborah Hay: “In my work with DANCE ON, I developed a choreography for an ensemble in which the artistic focus shifts towards more and more subtle forms of awareness, unconventional approach and revelation.”
